The First New Post
Wotcha all!
After a slight hiatus of only three years I decided it was time to re-invigorate the old blog. But, it appeared that the bIog gods were very much against me. Try as I might, I could not access my old blog 'The Words of Subedai' so after 13 years of blogging would have to be shelved, although it is still available to look at, I just can't seem to add any new posts. So here we are with a brand new blog which hopefully, I will be posting more often.
I would like to say that a lot has happened in the interim but that would be stretching the truth just a little. Covid has come and luckily nigh on gone, shows have been attended, even a multi player game has been played and painting has been done- not necessarily in huge proportions but some has been done.
Several years ago I went to the first Salute at Excel and didn't enjoy it that much, possibly because I was comparing it to the the other venues previously used, so consequently, I told myself I wouldn't go again. But last year, when it was the 50th show I changed my mind, after all I remember going to the first one so why not the 50th? I went, came back absolutely Kerry Packered, but I had a pretty good time. Got what I needed to -and of course a few other bits besides what was on the list- caught up with people whom I hadn't seen for a while and generally enjoyed myself.
So, guess what? I went again this year, Saturday just gone and again, managed to get my list of required items . What I went there specifically for was some 6mm chaps of the Achaemenid Persian and Medieval Rus persuasion to fill out some gaps in my armies. Some of the Achaemenids were from Heroics & Ros -Immortals, EH Cavalry and some horse archers while from Baccus I added some Assyrians, Egyptian Marines and some Kardakes. As the Baccus fellows come in packs of 96 and I will probably have 30 to a 3 40x20 base unit I will have a fair few chaps pottering around the table. I also bought various packs of Baccus Rus to face the my Rapier Mongols, all again on 40x20 bases.
Talking of bases, I also replenished my stock of the pre cut variety. A few packs of 40x20, some 30x15 and 20x15 for a special thing I am currently working on.
I also managed to get a copy of 'They Died for Glory', a set of FPW rules that were used at the game I had. A large FPW at Postie's Shed of War with, amongst others, Lee Hadley of BIg Lee's Miniature Adventures and Ray Rousell of Don't Throw a 1 fame. (Sorry lads, I did try to put in a link to your site but when I copied it from Word the link had gone). I bought them purely on the basis on that single game and now I have about four or five rule-sets to choose from.
I would like to say that the organisation was fantastic, the standard of games very high and the number of traders was just about perfect. I also noticed an eating area and chairs and tables scattered around the edges of the show, all made much use of.
That's it for now but I have attached a few pics that impressed me from the show. I haven't put in any credits because others who were quicker off the mark have already done so.
Don't let your paint dry on your brush,

A new blog ah Mick? Shame you couldn't get the old one up and running again.
ReplyDeleteCool pics though, from what was a fab show.
I know, I've trying for a few days but no luck. Not too shabby pics from a phone.
ReplyDeleteExcellent stuff, great photos and of course, welcome back to blogging!
ReplyDeleteCheers Lee, I am hoping to keep up with this one a bit more often than the last.
